Naturopathic medicine is a form of primary health care that utilizes the art and science of diagnosis and treatment, using natural therapies and non-pharmacological approaches, and focuses on the whole person rather than on individual parts. Naturopathic doctors use medical histories, physical exams and labs to assist in the process of coming to a diagnosis. They draw both on traditional knowledge and current research to inform both diagnosis and treatment.

Treatment focuses on healing the root causes rather than just symptom management, which is why the health interview and diagnosis process are so extensive. Finding the root cause and the underlying pattern isn’t always easy. The treatment modalities used in naturopathic medicine include botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, lifestyle counselling, homeopathy, acupuncture, and hydrotherapy which seek to support the health of the whole person gently and with minimal side effects, treat the root cause of the disease, and prevent future development of disease.

Your health is one of the most important things you have. It’s worth taking care of!

Holistic Healing

One of the many things that makes naturopathic medicine unique (and effective) are the guiding naturopathic principles. They emphasize that the body has the power to heal itself and that by removing obstacles to cure, gently nudging it in the right direction, finding the root cause of the illness and treating the person as a whole we can create long lasting and sustainable health. At the end of the day, everything connects eventually, and the quickest road to health is the one that considers all the symptoms and problems someone is experiencing.

Preventative Medicine

The best and most affordable treatment is to not develop an illness in the first place! Preventative medicine focuses on decreasing changeable risk factors for disease and implementing health promoting lifestyle changes to maintain health and quality of life through to old age. This also involves education and teaching patients the tools they need to make decisions about their own health and health care.

Root Cause

No matter the condition, a good long term treatment is to address the reason the problem started in the first place, not just the symptoms. The best treatment plans address both. Whenever possible I aim to address the underlying factors that caused a condition (like lifestyle) to promote long term change and in the meantime, or when underlying causes aren’t known, I address the symptoms for more immediate relief.
